painter and illustrator, contributed to Smith’s Weekly prior to WWII. In 1943-45 he was official artist to the American Red Cross in Australia and New Guinea; see original in series of posters/illustrations Aussies in Action (Mitchell Library PxD68/382) for Flight Lieutenant J.C. Murray, a member of the RNZAF, born Dunedin, who was a compositor and musician in civilian life, now flying a Halifax bomber on 'mail run’ raids (portrait with bombers, photograph by 'JH’). In 1945 McCormack went to the USA and had some success as a commercial artist in New York and Chicago, winning the US Art Director’s Award several times. He had returned to Sydney by 1964 when he was included in Rafty and Mack’s Blaxland Gallery cartooning exhibition.
