John Phillips

Colonial Victorian sketcher and pastoralist. Despite mixed success as a pastoralist in regional Victoria, the landscape and rural life inspired John Phillips' artistic career and his sketches variously featured local Aborigines, life on the sheep station and a posthumous portrait of the bushranger Daniel 'Mad Dog' Morgan drawn just after he was shot on a neighbouring property.
