Pitson was formerly employed at HMSO (UK) as a designer, later became director of typography at General Post Office, Canberra. He helped develop the Australian Govt. Printing Service (AGPS) Style Guide, he was also a member of ACT Branch of Industrial Design Institute of Australia.
