John Tjapaltjarri b. c.1940

Pintupi artist who may have painted occasionally for Papunya Tula Artists in the early 1970s, and began painting regularly for the company in the late 1980s after living in Balgo for a decade or more. He later moved to Tjukurla.

Born at Patjantjanya in the Lake MacDonald region c.1940, John Tjapaltjarri was in Papunya in the early 1970s but spent long periods of time in Balgo during the ’80s before beginning to paint regularly for Papunya Tula Artists in the late 1980s. He later moved to Tjukurla.
