painter, was listed as 'John Bayly’ when he exhibited with the Art Society of NSW in 1881 and 1883. At the 6th annual Art Society of NSW exhibition in 1885, the Sydney Morning Herald art critic noted: 'no.274 Entrance to Port Jackson by John Bavly [sic] is well drawn’ ( Sydney Morning Herald , 11 April 1885, p.9). 'J.V. Bayly’ was listed as exhibiting with the Art Society of NSW in 1887, while a watercolour signed 'J.W. Bayley’, Bridge over the Macquarie at Wellington NSW 1880, was lot 97 at Sotheby’s on 25 October 1985.
