Kate Davies was a woodcarver and the daughter of entrepreneur Maurice Coleman Davies and his wife Sarah. They moved from South Australia to Western Australia in 1875. Maurice Davies started Karridale Mill in 1879 and had many other large holdings including Liveringa Station, gold mining and shipping interests. He was a large exporter of wood and they were related to the Layman family of Wonnerup. In the 1890s Kate Davies carved a picture frame that is now in the collection of the Augusta Historical Museum.
