Lesley Duxbury was born in 1950 in Accrington, near Manchester, England. She studied at the Lancaster College of Art, 1968-70 and the Maidstone Colleges of Art in 1970-73, and worked as an art teacher in London before emigrating to Australia in 1983.
Duxbury worked as a technician and printer at the Australian Print Workshop in Melbourne for three years, then taught printmaking and drawing in a number of tertiary institutions in both Victoria and Western Australia. She studied for her MA at the Curtin University of Technology, 1991-93. In 1996 she was awarded the Visual Arts and Craft Board’s overseas residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris. That year she completed a large commission for the library at the Mt Lawley campus of Edith Cowan University in Perth.
Duxbury completed her PhD by project at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 2004, where she is currently Postgraduate Research Coordinator.
