Forbes was an artist who taught music, singing and painting prior to her marriage. She studied art under Francesco Vanzetti in Perth. In 1914 she is listed in Wises’s West Australian Post Office Directory as residing at 29 Douglas Street, Fremantle in Perth. She married Dr Eric Smith and in 1920 they had a daughter Ira. Following her birth the family set off overseas so that Smith could complete his training. They lived in Los Angeles and then in Edinurgh. The family returned to Perth in 1927. Mrs Smith was a painter and an active member of the Western Australian Women’s Society of Fine Arts and Craft, and she also became a well-known china painter.
