cartoonist, drew a rather crude lithograph, International Cricket Match/ 19th January 1883/ Australians 1st & 2nd Innings (ML V*CRI 3), showing a procession of doleful batters departing from broken stumps beside which a man stands holding the ball. Published by Andrew Sherar of Melbourne, it includes verse from London Punch :

“Ivo Bligh had a shy

At Australian Sticks

Scored like fun, gave them One

Of the neatest tricks

Hi Ivo! Ho Ivo!

Britons breathe once more

While they fill to your skill

And Leslie’s Sparkling score.

“Ivo Bligh England’s eye

Murdoch fairly wiped

Leslie’s “gross” retrieves our loss

How he must have swiped

Hi Ivo! Ho Ivo!

Stick to it! you will

Not for “crow” just to show

England’s in it still.”
