Madeleine Clear

The Tiwi people of Ratuati Irara (Bathurst Island and Melville Island) in the Northern Territory were working with the art teacher Madeleine (Drenth) Clear in the late 1960s to develop serial production wood-block prints (initially on rice paper and fabric) for sale. By 1969, Clear had become the art advisor for Tiwi Designs, later Tiwi Design, Bathurst Island. By 1975 she returned to WA and a career in painting.
