painter, was the widow of W.M. Orr, wife of Dr Charles Lempriere and daughter-in-law of Thomas James Lempriere . Maria Lempriere was living in Burnett Street, St Kilda when she showed three oil portraits at the first exhibition of the Victorian Society of Fine Arts at Melbourne in 1857: Study of a Female Head , Fancy Portrait and Portrait of the Queen . She lent six paintings to the 1869 Melbourne Public Library Exhibition, four copies by Miss Lempriere and two of her own oil copies: Hope and Going to the Derby . Included among the copies of paintings from the National Gallery of Victoria made by the pupils of von Gué rard shown at the 1873 London International Exhibition were two other oils by Mrs Lempriere, Sheep in Repose and La Belle Yseult .
