Born in 1938 of the Anmatyerre tribe, Mavis Nakamarra’s traditional country is Mt Allan. She paints Caterpillar, Bush Potato, and Bush Onion Dreamings. One of her Yala Dreamings was sold to Hazel Hawke, the wife of the then Prime Minister, when she came to Mt Allan in 1988 to open the Yuelamu Museum and Art Gallery. Mavis lived for a time with her mother at Hermannsburg, but is now back in Mt Allan.
