pastellist, was probably the younger sister of Miss M. Gatliff and daughter of Rev. James Gatliff. Two of her 'chalk’ drawings, The Lion in Love and Monarch of the Glen , were shown at the 1869 Ballarat Mechanics Institute Exhibition. These were again exhibited that year, together with another chalk drawing titled Dignity and Impudence , at the Geelong Mechanics Institute. All appear to have been copies after the English painter Edwin Landseer’s popular works, engravings of which circulated as widely in the colonies as in England.
