teacher, announced at the beginning of May 1840 that, 'having been long engaged in the tuition of youths in the FRENCH LANGUAGE, DRAWING, and FLUTE’, he was proposing to begin classes immediately at the Emporium of Arts, Charles Street, Launceston. A week later the same 'gentleman from Paris, Mon. Pollet, B.L.’ was teaching French, drawing and dancing at Mrs Cousens’s school in Brisbane Street and offering private evening classes from the house next door, formerly occupied by the solicitor Mr Stilwell. Nothing further is known of Pollet. His name occurs neither among the 1842 census returns for Van Diemen’s Land nor in the list of passengers leaving Launceston.
