The South Australian Advertiser noted that 'two or three paintings by a Mr. Beilby are second to none in the room. We allude particularly to no. 20, Ruins (a study) , the coloring of which is uncommonly well executed’. On the other hand, the South Australian Register considered Beilby’s works 'rough in style’.
