Ralf Haertel of Launceston, Tasmania was one of 25 artists to exhibit his work in the large group show, The Life and Death Show, at the Cleveland House Stables Gallery in Cleveland, Tasmania in 2002. That same year Haertel curated an the exhibition, Alumni, that was staged at the Inveresk Academy Gallery, University of Tasmania, Launceston. In 2003 Haertel, Vicki West and Muriel Maynard received a Federal Government Regional Artist Development Grant for their project, Exploding the Extinction Myth, which was, according to the Government media release, a “project of exhibition development workshops with Indigenous artists, to be held in Darwin and Elcho Island, NT over a 10-day period. It will also involve learning about exhibition touring through Artback NT and generate collaborative art work.”
