Painter, daughter of Sir Frederick Holder, Speaker of the House of Reps, asked the Commonwealth Art Advisory Board to commission her to paint her father’s portrait for the national collection in 1912 when he suddenly died in Parliament. There is however no record of payment and another portrait of him by a male artist (unidentified) is also in the Parliamentary collection. Rhoda Holder exhibited with the South Australian Academy of Art in 1907-1921 (see Art Gallery of South Australia).
