Richard Thomas Baker was one of the early supporters of the waratah as the national flower of Australia and to that end in 1915 he wrote 'Australian Flora in Applied Art: The Waratah'.

botanist, painter and teacher, was a pioneer in propagating the waratah as heraldic emblem. See his Australian Flora in Applied Art: The Waratah , Sydney, 1915.
