Henderson was an art director on POL magazine in the late 1960s before moving to Europe as an art director for Collett Dickenson & Pearce Advertising, first in London and later in West Germany where after 4 years he returned to London and worked for 8 years as a freelance photographer, He returned to Sydney in the late 1990s.
