Architect and water-colorist Robert Haddon was born in London and at the age of twenty-three immigrated to Melbourne where he was a member of the RVIA. He worked in Adelaide in 1894 and in 1895 came to Perth. He lived at “Anselm” in West Perth and worked at the Public Works Department in 1896.

He is claimed to be a co-founder with T. S. Henry of the West Australian Society of Arts. He was certainly the Honorary Secretary for the West Australian Society of Arts in its early years. He was retrenched in 1898 and returned to Melbourne where in 1902 he was appointed architectural lecturer at Melbourne Working Man’s College (now the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT). He became a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1907 and in 1908 published Australian Architecture . He was a founder member of the Victorian Arts and Crafts Society.
