professional photographer, advertised at Brisbane in September 1862 that for seven years he had been an operator at Bowman’s Photographic Establishment in Glasgow, Scotland. He was then opening for business in Queen Street and is thought to have been the first photographer to produce cartes-de-visite in Queensland. Leck then returned to Sydney; a carte-de-visite from 621 George Street is cited by Davies and Stanbury, while the 'New Portrait Gallery -Lecky’s’ at 530 George Street, advertised in the Sydney Morning Herald of 20 February 1864, was surely his. He was offering six cartes-de-visite portraits for a shilling and 'Valentines’ wholesale. Later that year Leck returned to Brisbane and opened a studio in Edward Street, remaining in Brisbane until 1867.
