Roslyn Hayward is a Noongar woman who was born and raised in Gnowangerup, a small town in the south-west region of Western Australia, approximately 345 kilometres south-east of Perth. Hayward was one of nine children. Her family would often spend their spare time in the bush gathering food. The children would be free to wander the bush to pick food. These times were viewed as family outings but also taught the children values and understanding of bush tucker. It is this understanding that inspires Hayward in her painting. Primarily she paints the bush tucker she came to know so well. It is a part of her heritage.

In 2009 Hayward enrolled in a Certificate III course in Visual Arts and Contemporary Craft at the Kidogo Art Institute in Fremantle under the tuition of Joanna Robertson. In June/July this same year she, along with the other students, staged the group show 'Moorditj Mob’ at Kidogo Arthouse.
