Opie was an artist active in Melbourne from the 1930s to the 1950s. He exhibited at the Fine Arts Gallery, 1935, the Victorian Artists Society 1938 and the Anthenaeum Art Gallery, 1935 where he is described as a painter "in the manner of the Meldrum group." He was a member of the Contemporary Art Society of Victoria.
