Sarah Miller has worked in many capacities in the arts – performer, writer, producer/curator, and artistic and executive director working across the visual, performing, hybrid and new media arts – since starting out as a performance artist in 1983. She is best known for successive directorships of the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts Ltd – PICA (1994 – 2006) and Performance Space, Sydney (1989 – 1993), which saw her producing and presenting exhibitions, seasons, festivals and events locally, nationally and internationally, whilst working to ensure that artists, groups and companies were valued and encouraged in the making of their work. She was the recipient of the prestigious 2003 Sidney Myer Performing Arts Facilitator’s Award.

Sarah has provided expert advice for a range of government and statutory bodies including the Australian Research Council for Excellence in Research Australia (ERA), and the Australia Council for the Arts: the Australian Government’s arts funding and advisory body, as well as state funding agencies in NSW and Western Australia, and several university art school advisory committees. She is a former member of the Australia Council’s Theatre Board (2005 – 2007), Drama Committee (1991 – 93), Hybrid Arts Committee (1994) and was an external peer on the New Media Arts Board in 1996, in which roles she undertook the evaluation and assessment of funding applications by individuals, companies and organisations nationally.
