Rattle was an interior designer working in domestic interiors. A foe of the open plan interior, he worked in a consistently historicist style. His firm, Stuart Rattle Interior Design was in Malvern Road, South Yarra, Victoria. His first design position was designing clothing for "The Plete" boutique, Richmond but later accounts of his life note he had no formal design training.
