professional photographer, was presumably a son of Maurice Felton and a younger brother of Myra , who would have taught him photography. In February 1865 Thomas Felton purchased Edwin Dalton 's photographic studio at 320 George Street, Sydney, continuing to trade as Dalton’s Royal Photographic Gallery. Dalton’s staff, with the exception of William Bradley , who set up a rival firm, remained with Felton. In addition, he employed E. Montagu Scott to execute the crayon portraits for which Dalton had been renowned, to colour the photographs and to paint the original oils for which 'Mr Felton is now prepared to take commissions’. Felton remained in business for about two years, being listed as a photographer at this address in Sands Sydney Directory until 1868. By April, however, the studio had been taken over by William Freeman .
