Tommy Lowry’s traditional country was Patja, in the Clutterbuck Hills, far to the south-west of Kintore and across the WA border towards Warburton. He spoke Pintupi/Ngardajarra and painted Tingari Dreamings, specifically the Snake Men stories for this area. Never prolific, his last works featured distinctive creamy pulsating surfaces in the dotting and were like enlargements of his earlier works from the 1970s. Before painting, Tommy Lowry was on the books of Papunya Tula Artists as a carver of wooden implements.
