painter and comic artist, son of the painter Arthur Loureiro , grew up in Melbourne and studied art at the National Gallery of Victoria Schools in 1902-5. In 1905 he exhibited postcard designs and a portrait with the Yarra Sculptors’ Society and pen and ink sketches in Frederick McCubbin 's studio exhibition at South Yarra. His pen and ink drawings were used for comic postcards (see Cook). After moving to Sydney, Loureiro drew postcards and portraits for passengers on the harbour ferries at a shilling a time. Later he pursued the same career in the US, according to Moore. His best Australian postcards are a series of fashionable “tarts”, with captions varied to sell both in Sydney and Melbourne, plus limericks. He died during WWI.
