Plante studied at the Académie Julian, Paris, where she lived off little more than biscuits. She later emerged as Modernist, and in 1932 was a founding exhibitor with the Melbourne Contemporary Group of Post-Impressionist painters.

    The Benalla Art Gallery presents an exhibition program of Australian and international art in the Bennett Gallery, in addition to the permanent collection which includes elements of the region’s history and recounting an Australian-European settlement story.     The Art Gallery of New South Wales began in the 1870s as an aspect of the Academy of Art. Later it became known as the National Art Gallery of NSW. This name persisted beyond Federation in 1901. It was given its present name in 1958.
    It remains the principal collecting and exhibiting body in NSW and is governed by the Art Gallery of New South Wales Act of 1980.
