'Little Miss Ironside' was a painter of religious themes on the grand scale. Her work, while unenthusiastically received in Australia, nevertheless earned her an audience with Pope Pius IX and the admiration of both John Ruskin and the Prince of Wales.
painter, was born in Sydney on 17 November 1831, only surviving child of James Ironside, a commission agent from Scotland, and Martha Rebecca, née Redman.
