Painter who studied at the National Gallery School in Melbourne from 1909-1916. Known for her portraiture, among Dent's better known sitters is Jean Burns, Australia's youngest aviator and the country's first female parachutist.
Aileen Rose Dent was born in Deniliquin, New South Wales in 1890. A student at the National Gallery School in Melbourne from 1909 -1916, Dent exhibited at the Atheneum Gallery, Melbourne on a regular basis from 1920. In 1939 she painted a portrait of Jean Burns, Australia’s youngest aviator and first female parachutist, (collection of Jean Burns). Dent’s paintings were also included in the exhibition, Australian Women Artists, One Hundred Years 1840 -1940, held at Melbourne University, Ewing and George Paton Gallery. She died in 1979.
