Alexander Smithers

Professional photographer and vocal proponent of modernisation in the arts. Active in Newcastle around the 1860s, he produced photographs of the triumphal arch that was erected to welcome the Duke of Edinburgh to the city during his royal progress around Australia before moving on to become manager of the Sydney Photographic Company.
