Surveyor and amateur woodworker who arrived in Western Australia in 1838. His first wife was Christina Slade and his second was Deborah Clarkson. He was employed in the Lands Department as a surveyor and then as a clerk in the Governor’s Office, Registrar of Deeds and other government posts. He was resident magistrate at Toodyay when he made a pedestal of sandalwood, which was exhibited in the International Exhibition in London in 1862. Woodworking of this sort was a mid-19th century gentleman’s hobby and he probably made a number of other small items. He committed suicide when, as Resident Magistrate at Geraldton, he was accused of misappropriating funds.
