professional photographer, worked at Sandhurst (Bendigo) from the late 1850s or early 1860s before establishing a photographic studio in Elizabeth Street, Melbourne, in 1867-70. Wren was back at Sandhurst by 1873 when a newspaper reported the attempted suicide of his 14-year-old son. In both the 1860s and 1870s he was president of the Bendigo Regional Library.
