cartoonist, drew excellent cartoons for Aussie and the Bulletin in the 1920s. Little is known about her except that she was living at the Sydney beachside suburb of Manly in 1925. The style and subject matter of her cartoons suggest she was English in origin and training. Her Bulletin cartoons, which are rather 'Heath Robinson’ in style, include: 'THE NEW SETTLERS. – “SURROUNDED BY SAVAGES”’ published 10 December 1925, 24; 'PARRAKEETA LAYS OUT ITS LINKS’ 5 August 1926, 31; '“ADVANCE, AUSTRALIA FAIR!”’ (male beauty contest) 26 September 1926, 12; 'THE BEAUTY PARLOUR’ 18 July 1928, 54; 'COMMUNITY SINGING’ 25 July 1928, 54; 'FLAHERTY’S FLAT TAKES UP CROQUET’ 1 August 1928, 39.

ML has several original Bulletin cartoons by “Sol” (her inevitable, gender-free signature), including 'Artists All!’ published 7 July 1927, and the large and intricate 'The Newchums save the family heirlooms’ (PxD514/96), published 17 December 1925 when she was living at Flat 4, 196 Addison Road, Manly. (The only Solly at Manly in the 1930 Sands was Charles A. Solly) She is included in c.1930s list of Bulletin Artists (Mitchell Library Px*D557 pt 5, '22’).
