Alison Alder is a visual artist whose work blurs the line between studio, community and social/political art practice.
Alder’s work has been exhibited in several key Australian exhibitions including Roads Cross: Contemporary Directions in Australian Art at the Flinders University Art Museum and Gallery (Adelaide & touring), Making It New: Focus on Contemporary Australian Art at the Museum of Contemporary Art (Sydney) and Ghost Citizens: Witnessing the Intervention at Cross Arts Project (Sydney & touring).
Her work is held in the collections of the National Gallery of Australia, most State galleries and numerous regional galleries, the Australian War Memorial and private collections including the Cruthers Collection of Women’s Art and the Kerry Stokes Collection.
Throughout her working life she has undertaken several residencies in places as diverse as Williamstown Naval Dockyard (Victoria), Nganmarriyanga community (Northern Territory), the Centre for Contemporary Prints (Connecticut, USA) and Open Studio, Canada. Alder’s teaching practice is diverse, teaching and lecturing, for example, at the Australian National University School of Art, tutoring in TAFE outreach programs and delivering screen-printing classes at the Alexander Maconachie Correctional Facility in Canberra.
Alder has a Master of Fine Arts (Research) and is currently Head of Printmedia and drawing at the ANU School of Art in Canberra.
