amateur photographer, was one of the ten children of Elizabeth and Julius Imberger. Originally from Germany, her parents settled in Tenterfield, NSW, where they ran a timber mill, built beside their family home, Montrose, in Bulmer Street. It is unlikely that Annie had any formal training in photography or in any other areas of the arts. Prior to marrying Jack McLeod, a newspaper journalist, she performed 'home duties’ in her parents’ house. The McLeods lived first at Cobra, then at Taree. Their only daughter, Audrey, undertook nursing training at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney, but during the 1920s died from meningitis, aged eighteen.
