Architect and draughtsman, was called an architectural draughtsman when he exhibited with the Victorian Fine Arts Society in 1853. He drew an ink southwest view of the Melbourne Law Courts dated 1875 (La Trobe Library, H8392), which may be a study for similar engravings (Mca 2/1) with 'Smith & Johnson, Architects Melbourne 1875’ printed lower right and dated and titled in pencil on the mount below the drawing.
