Arthur Pepper-Dawes is from the Gunai/Kurnai people of South-eastern Victoria. He began painting when he enrolled in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art and Design course at Central Gippsland Institute of TAFE. His designs and colours he chooses to work with are, according to his entry in Tribal Expressions: The Business of Art and Culture in Indigenous Victoria (Ed, Jane Harrison, pg 70) “representative of his Gunai/Kurani country.”
