cartoonist and illustrator, was working as an illustrator in Sydney c.1909-10 when he did illustrations for a number of books for the NSW Bookstall Co., including Steele Rudd’s On An Australian Farm (1910). Having trained as a photo engraver, he set up a business in the Daily Guardian building and was contracted to make the blocks for both the Guardian and Smith’s Weekly . Rainbow illustrates his original Smith’s gag: 'City Man: “That’s a fire-escape!”/ Woop Woop: “Garn yer can’t pull my leg I know a ladder when I see one.”’
