A Wadjarri speaker originally from Yullalong Station in WA, Betty Egan’s traditional country lies around the Murchison River. Now in her thirties (Born c.1955), she lives and studies in Alice Springs. Her painting was highly commended in the 1989 NT Art Award, one of Jukurrpa’s early successes which helped to consolidate the group. She has sold works to Oroton to be made into silk scarves, and her painting Murchison River Dreaming was acquired by the National Gallery of Australia from the ’89 Jukurrpa exhibition at the Araluen Arts Centre.
