painter, sent an oil Portrait of a Child to the 1866 Melbourne Intercolonial Exhibition when living in Devonshire Street, Surry Hills, Sydney. An untitled oil painting (listed as 'Landscape and Figures’) catalogued as being by C.J. 'Paterson’, an amateur painter of Marlborough Street, Sydney, was shown at the 1870 Sydney Intercolonial Exhibition and commended by the jury. C.J. Patison, again listed in Surry Hills, showed two oil views of the Hawkesbury River at the Sydney Metropolitan Intercolonial Exhibition in 1878.
