Goodman, pencil and watercolour of a man with fish and an empty purse beside him annotated '“His custom often of an afternoon” Shakspere’ [sic], signed 'CPenstone/ Sydney’ (P2/112). Sir William Dixson presented a C. Penstone lithograph on green paper to the State Library of New South Wales in 1951 (DG XV*/ CARTOON/1) showing a moustachioed man in a pyjama type outfit up a flagpole hammering on the Australian flag while the Stars and Stripes drops to the ground (in oval with crossed oars), annotated top, '“The Smith a Mighty Man is He” (Longfellow)’, lower left 'Registered’, below centre “'Tis not alone in Egypt’s deadly breach/ “Our Boys” will guard Australia’s banner to the last,/ “Our Boy” at Home, the plucky William Beach/ [over] Has nailed those colors [sic] firmly to the Mast.” Diener & Stephan Lith.’ is included lower right.

Penstone eloped to South Africa with Constance Roth . After Felix Roth divorced her, they married. Together they started the Owl in South Africa. He died in South Africa in 1896 and Roth continued the paper alone.
