Chris Edwards is a descendant of the Gumbaynggir people of Nambucca Heads. In 1999 his life story became the subject for a documentary directed by Jeni Kendall called 'A Cry From the Heart'. In 2007 he was a finalist in the Parliament of NSW Indigenous Art Prize.
