Clement Hodgkinson was a surveyor, author and artist. In 1843 he was employed by the NSW governor to explore and map the north eastern district of NSW in order the encourage investors.

He wrote From Port Macquarie to Moreton Bay. (London, 1845), illustrated with his own drawings, e.g. Natives spearing fish in the Bellengen [Bellingen] River (ill Warner). The original pencil, pen and wash drawing (10.1 × 15.3 cm) is in the Rex Nan Kivell Collection, National Library of Australia.
