Colonial artist, arrived in Australia as a public servant but was dismissed for insubordination, which he sought to clear himself of by letters of petition, even in his later years. As an artist he had painted the famous 'discoverer' of gold, E. H. Hargraves as well as some self portraits. He opened a drawing academy in 1858.
