David Hanly (1936–) graduated from the University of NSW and was registered in 1960. He joined HP Oser. In 1961, the firm became known as Oser Fombertaux and Associates (a partnership with Jean Fombertaux, with Kevin Rice and Hanly as associates), then Oser Fombertaux and Rice (with new partner Kevin Rice). During that time, Hanly worked on the Tooheys headquarters, BOAC House and the Esso head office in Sussex Street and was involved in designing other office buildings, 1960s project homes and hotels. After Hans Peter Oser died in 1967, Kevin Rice and David Hanly became partners with Jean Fombertaux (Fombertaux, Rice Hanly.) Hanly left the practice in 1975 to go farming at Gunnedah and produced several project homes for a developer named Inhabit. In 1984, he moved to Port Macquarie and set up a sole architectural practice – designing hotels and smaller projects – until retirement in 2002. In 1993-1994, he won the HIA Top Homes Designers Award for the Hinds house at Port Macquarie.
