Early 20th century painter and illustrator, Dora Sommers contributed work to the Women's National League Journal - an 'arty' right-wing but feminist group with an avant-garde craft style. In December 1907 Sommers drew the cover for Native Companion.
painter and illustrator, daughter of John (Jack) Sommers and sister of John Archibald Douglas Sommers (d.1934), studied at the National Gallery of Victoria Schools in 1900-6. She showed a portrait with the Victorian Artists’ Society in 1906 and drew the cover for Native Companion of 2 December 1907. According to Juliet Peers, she had a fascinating nationalist image and other work in the Women’s National League Journal , an 'arty’ right wing group but feminist with an avant garde craft style, e.g. it had Prenzel furniture in its rooms (now owned by the Liberal Party of Victoria).
