Bertha Dorothy Leviny, known more commonly as Dorothy Leviny, was was one of the ten children of Ernest Leviny, a notable Victorian silversmith, and his wife, Bertha. All of the Leviny daughters were known for their creative endeavours but Dorothy was the most creative and prolific.

At the Bendigo Schools of Mines, she studied under Mr Arthur T Woodward, a great proponent of the Arts and Crafts movement and despite winning second prize in the Fine and Applied Arts and Photography section for Best Original Design for Wallpaper at the 1907 Australian Women’s Work exhibition, she is known primarily for her metal and enamel work.
