sketcher, showed twelve drawings signed E. Bryant at the 1869 Ballarat Mechanics Institute Exhibition, including Sydney Harbour and Corinth under the Moon . Bryant obtained gold medals for his drawings at the 1869 Sandhurst (Bendigo) and Geelong Industrial exhibitions and others were included in the 1879 Sydney International Exhibition. In May 1880 he visited Geelong with eight pencil drawings, which he was raffling in an art union of fifty subscribers. Having half filled the list in Melbourne, Bryant intended staying at Geelong for a day or two only, in order to obtain 'the names of some local gentlemen’. Three of his drawings were described in the Geelong Advertiser of 27 May as landscapes 'of the highest order of merit’.
